Using chat

Messages, attachments, voice input, history and languages.

Sending messages#

Type in the input at the bottom and press Enter to send. Shift + Enter adds a new line. Answers stream in as they are written and are rendered with formatting: headings, lists, tables and code blocks.

While an answer is being written, the send button turns into a stop button. Stopping keeps the text that already arrived.

Attachments#

Click + in the input to attach files. Peridot reads them as text and sends them with your message.

Tip

In the desktop app you rarely need attachments. Open the project folder and ask: the agent reads the files it needs. See Peridot Code.

Voice input#

Click the microphone button, speak, and click it again. Peridot converts the recording to text and puts it in the input so you can edit it before sending. Your browser or the desktop app asks for microphone permission the first time.

Voice input uses a small, cheap model and counts toward your monthly allowance, but not toward the daily message count.

Skills and commands#

Type / in the input to see commands. In the desktop app these are the commands added by your plugins. Keep typing to filter, and press Tab to complete the highlighted one.

History#

When you are signed in, every chat is saved to your account and listed in the sidebar. You can:

Signed out, a chat only lives until you close the page.

In the desktop app, chats are grouped by project: each chat belongs to the project folder it was started in, and opening it switches back to that project.

Long conversations#

Every message you send includes the earlier conversation, so very long chats cost more and eventually hit your plan's size limit for a single request. Peridot trims the oldest messages from a long chat so it keeps working. If you need the older details, repeat them, or start a new chat. See Accounts and plans.

Languages#

The Peridot interface is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French, German and Italian. Change it in Settings → General or from the Language entry in the account menu. You can write to the models in any language. They answer in the language you use.
